Not all blow-dry brush sets are created equal. If you're about to buy your first one, here's everything worth knowing so you choose well the first time.
1. Detachable barrels beat a fixed brush
A set with detachable barrels lets you swap sizes from one handle: tight curls one day, loose volume the next. A single fixed brush locks you into one look.
2. Match the barrel range to your hair
Smaller barrels suit shorter, finer hair; larger barrels suit longer hair and loose waves. A range of sizes covers you on every kind of day. See our barrel size guide.
3. Think about how many barrels you need
Thicker and longer hair needs more barrels so you can section generously: a 12 or 18-barrel set rather than a 6. Match the set to your hair type.
4. Look for a ceramic finish
Ceramic barrels spread heat evenly and glide smoothly for a shinier, frizz-free result: here's why it matters.
5. Check what's included
The best value sets bundle the barrels, handle and clips, and sometimes prep and finishing accessories, so you have everything to get started.
6. Remember it works with your own dryer
A blow-dry brush set isn't a heated tool: you use it with your hairdryer, which means less direct heat on your hair than tongs or straighteners.
